They boast an impressive selection of over 60 imported cheeses, allowing for endless customization and flavor combinations.

The sandwiches here are not only huge, offering incredible value for money, but they are also crafted with an emphasis on fresh, local ingredients. Our personal go-to choices are always on their incredible pretzel bread. My husband swears by the “North Shore” sandwich, while I am utterly devoted to the “Lake Street.” Beyond the main attraction, you absolutely must try their side of Maytag blue cheese coleslaw. It’s uniquely flavorful – a creamy, tangy, and unforgettable accompaniment that elevates the entire meal.

A crucial tip for first-timers: The Village Cheese Shanty operates on a cash-only basis, so be prepared! And don’t be deterred if you see a line stretching out the door; it’s a testament to its popularity, and I promise you, the wait is more than worth it for these delectable creations. Our journey continued further north on the Leelanau Peninsula, bringing us to the charming village of Northport. Situated at the very tip of the peninsula, Northport exudes a laid-back, quintessential surf and beach town vibe. It’s an ideal spot for those seeking a more tranquil coastal experience, perfect for enjoying the calm waters or browsing through local boutiques.

Northport offers beautiful public beaches, perfect for swimming, sunbathing, or simply relaxing by the clear waters of Lake Michigan. The village itself has a welcoming downtown area with a few unique shops and eateries that reflect its relaxed coastal character. It’s a great place to unwind, grab a coffee, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere before venturing back south.
